The Eta Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad, Lambda Pi
Chi Sorority, Inc. at Wesleyan University was founded on April 27, 1997.
The Eta Chapter founding Hermanas, Vanessa Mieles, Marielis
Rivera, Linda Rodriguez, Anivelca Abreu, Adayna Gonzalez, Andrea
Rosario, and Marinieves Alba, drew from the strength, experiences and
dedication of over fifteen women of color at Wesleyan who researched and
set a foundation for a Latina-based sorority at Wesleyan. The seven
members of the founding pledge class sought to establish a vehicle for
unity and empowerment through which women could seek support for their
educational, organizational, personal and professional goals.
During the Spring of 1998, the founders of Eta Chapter brought into the Sorority 4 new women that held our commitment, initiative and strength to keep our goals alive. They are: Melissa Oppenheimer, Avy Gonzalez, Diane Maldonado and Marisel Ramos. Together we continue to uphold our ideals at Wesleyan University and abroad.
